4K’s week

Friday 2nd February | 3 comments

Hi all,

In maths this week we have concentrated on finding a fraction of a number. The children have learned how to divide by the denominator then multiply by the numerator to find a fraction of a quantity or amount. For example to find 2/5 of 60 we first divide it by 5 to get 12 then multiply that by 2 to get 24. The children need to be able to use their times tables, division methods and multiplication methods to solve these types of problems. Homework is to find fractions of numbers. Most children are secure with this but please can you check that your child understands what they are doing. They may need to brush up on their times tables or formal division method.

In Literacy we have been finding out about vertebrate animals. We thought about what we already knew and some questions we wanted to find out. We then used IPads to do research. We were shocked as a class at how many animals were on the WWF endangered species list! The children enjoyed the research and we are looking forward to using the information to write our own information text about animals. We are then going to create pop-up books to share with Year 2.

We have learnt how to create a variety of pop-ups and the children are looking forward to making these next week. I have heard that some have even been practising at home!

In Science, the children are learning about how to look after their teeth. They will learn about why it is important to brush their teeth thoroughly twice a day and how to do this properly. Hopefully, they will be able to demonstrate tonight!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Kroon
