An all round great week

Friday 20th September | 2 comments

This week in Maths the children have continued rounding numbers and have focused on rounding to the nearest 100. We have also extended their place value knowledge to four digits using plenty of ones cubes, tens sticks, hundred plates and thousand cubes. Using equipment gives the children a chance to experience what 1000 feels like and how it is made up, instead of it just being an abstract number. The homework this week is based on partitioning 1000s numbers.

In English, explaining why something has happened or the effects of an event has been the focus. The children had to imagine they owned a shop and had to write a letter to their customers to explain why their shop was not open. Our classes have a wild imagination and floods, run away dogs and alien invations were all used as excuses to shut up early.

We have continued to learn the ABBA song Mamma Mia in music. 4B had plenty of willing volunteers for the roles of Agnetha, Björn, Benny and Anni-Frid in our practise session, with the rest of the class acting as a superb backing band.

It was great to see new and familar faces this week at the meet the teacher session on Wednesday. Thank you for your support.

Special mentions this week go to Emily, Alfie, Matilda, Vaughn and Junior. Well done for your efforts this week.

Have a great weekend.
